Does Copper Contamination Affect Soil CO2 Emissions? A Literature Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Contaminated soils are widespread and contamination is known to impact several biotic soil processes. But it still not clear what extent affects carbon efflux (CO 2 ) occurring through microfauna respiration. Regarding the large stocks of organic (Corga) stored in soils, even limited changes outputs fluxes may modify atmospheric CO concentration with important feedbacks on climate. In this study, we aimed at assessing quantifying how respiration affected by contamination. For that, performed a quantitative review literature focusing 1) heterotrophic measurements thus excluding autotrophic from plants, 2) copper contamination, 3) influence pedo-climatic parameters such as pH, clay content or type Using dataset 389 data analyzed RandomForest linear mixed statistical models, showed decrease emission an increase Specific ex-situ spiking experiments could be easily differentiated ones originated in-situ due their sharper Corga mineralization. Interestingly, spikes provided threshold Cu contents for emissions: increased inputs below 265 mgCu.kg ?1 decreased above concentration. Data long-term contaminations anthropogenic activities (industrialization, agriculture, … also displayed mineralization, much particularly industrial (smelter, sewage sludge, emissions when increased. Soil pH was identified significant driver effect emissions, C mineralization found more sensitive acidic than neutral alkaline soils. Conversely climate did significantly explain responses Finally, collected were used propose empirical equation can The cannot related, however, role sink comes together microbial biomass.

Tillage and straw affect soil CO2 emissions in a rain-fed corn field

A field study was conducted to assess the effects of soil tillage practices and straw management on soil CO2, and yield-scaled CO2 emissions in a rain-fed summer corn field on the Loess Plateau. Tillage treatments consisted of sub-soiling tillage (CP), no tillage (NT) and moldboard plow tillage (CT). Wheat straw was removed from half of the CP, NT and CT plots after harvest, allowing us to test...

How does burnout affect physician productivity? A systematic literature review

BACKGROUND Interest in the well-being of physicians has increased because of their contributions to the healthcare system quality. There is growing recognition that physicians are exposed to workplace factors that increase the risk of work stress. Long-term exposure to high work stress can result in burnout. Reports from around the world suggest that about one-third to one-half of physicians ex...

Does Soil Disturbance Affect Soil Phosphorus Fractions?

Increased turnover of organic matter as a result of soil disturbance (e.g. by soil tillage) is described in principle, but the direct influence of soil disturbance on soil P turnover especially for organic farming systems has not been sufficiently proven. The objective of the study was to evaluate the short term effect of soil disturbance on different soil P fractions in a soil shaking experime...

Toothbrush Contamination: A Review of the Literature

Toothbrushes are commonly used in hospital settings and may harbor potentially harmful microorganisms. A peer-reviewed literature review was conducted to evaluate the cumulative state of knowledge related to toothbrush contamination and its possible role in disease transmission. A systematic review was conducted on adult human subjects through three distinct searches. The review resulted in sev...

Soil CO2 concentration does not affect growth or root respiration in bean or citrus

Contrasting effects of soil CO2 concentration on root respiration rates during short-term CO2 exposure, and on plant growth during long-term CO2 exposure, have been reported. Here we examine the effects of both shortand long-term exposure to soil CO2 on the root respiration of intact plants and on plant growth for bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and citrus (Citrus volkainenana Tan. & Pasq.). For r...
